Tanzania Safari Planning Suggestions

Make sure your plan aligns with your vacation goals: whether you want to observe the Wildebeest Migration on your safari or enjoy the finest beach weather in Zanzibar, make sure your itinerary does.

For high season, book early: Tanzania’s most popular safari sites and well-located camps near Wildebeest Migration hotspots are sometimes sold out a year in advance.

Choose your activities: conventional safari activities such as morning and afternoon game drives are available, while excursions such as night game drives, guided bush walks, and hot-air balloon safaris are only available in select areas or camps.

Expect more people during peak season: From June to October, Tanzania’s heavyweight national parks, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire, can attract huge crowds of tourists. If you want to avoid the crowds while still seeing a lot of wildlife, go during the low or Green Season (about November to March).

Go on a private safari: If you’re looking for exclusivity, come to one of Tanzania’s private reserves. The accommodations are excellent, the wildlife viewing is comparable to that of the major parks, and additional safari activities are occasionally available.
