Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park, located in the Mara Region, holds the distinction of being Tanzania's oldest national park. It is renowned for the annual spectacle of over 1.5 million white-bearded and brindled wildebeests, along with more than 250,000 zebras, during their remarkable migration. The park is also famous for its thriving crocodile population. Beyond this, it is a sanctuary for a rich variety of resident wildlife, including the revered 'Big Five.' The Serengeti is notably home to Africa's largest population of lions, thanks to an abundance of prey species. Leopards, although commonly sighted in the Seronera region, can be found throughout the park.

African elephants, which suffered population declines due to poaching in the 1980s, are making a promising recovery, primarily in the northern regions of the park. Black rhinoceroses are primarily situated around the kopjes in the park's central area, while African buffaloes continue to thrive in considerable numbers.

The Serengeti is also a haven for a diverse array of other wildlife species, including cheetahs, gazelles, topi, hyenas, impalas, elands, African wild dogs, waterbucks, baboons, and graceful giraffes. Furthermore, the park is a birdwatcher's paradise, boasting around 500 bird species, among which you can spot ostriches, kori bustards, crowned cranes, secretary birds, lovebirds, marabou storks, martial eagles, and various vulture species, adding to the incredible biodiversity of this remarkable natural wonder.
